A skill development course, with readings, experiential learning activities and oral and written communication assignments. It is designed to help students enhance their self-confidence in interacting with other people, individually or in groups, and develop their capabilities in writing, leading groups and presenting information. Assertiveness techniques, presentation of self, critical thinking and collaboration skills complement the development of interpersonal and communication competencies. Active learning methods are used to facilitate growth at any level of current student development.
This guide is designed to help students in Interpersonal and Communication Skills for Healthcare Professionals (NURS 20010) learn how to effectively research health care topics related to nursing. Students will learn skills such as:

(Taking a natural language research question or topic and translating it into a usable search string for finding information in various library resources)
- Choosing Appropriate Library Resources
(Learning which databases are most valuable for the research conducted and how to effectively use them)
- Discerning Scholarly vs Popular Articles
(Reviewing magazine and journal content to determine whether or not an article meets certain standards of scholarly activity)
- Evaulating Web Sites
(Applying criteria to make judgements about the quality of information made available freely on the internet)
